Intea and Västtrafik have entered into a 25-year lease agreement for a new train depot right next to Intea’s existing train depot in Falköping. At the same time, the lease term for the existing depot will be extended by 25 years from the completion date of the new train depot.

The new train depot is set to comprise around 3,500 sqm of lettable space, with construction scheduled to start in 2023 and occupancy in spring 2025. Together with the existing train depot, the total lettable area will amount to approximately 6,750 sqm at the Anneborg 2:4 property in Falköping.

The project to develop a new train depot has been ongoing since 2017. Västtrafik’s order of new trains will require new facilities for servicing and maintenance. The new train depot will be connected to the existing train depot by the construction of a new servicing and maintenance workshop with a building length of just over 100 metres. The project also includes space for offices and staff quarters. As part of the work, new tracks will also be built, doubling the current track length. “It’s exciting to continue developing the company’s operations, which are based on long-term rental relationships with public-sector tenants. Intea provides customised infrastructure for our tenants, and the Falköping depot is an excellent example of this,” said Kjell-Åke Nilsson, Head of Business Development at Intea.

Intea and Västtrafik have ambitious environmental and sustainability goals, which are reflected in the new train depot’s design. The project features several innovative solutions in the fields of technology and the environment; the building will be equipped with a geothermal system, solar panels, energy recovery and charging facilities for cars and bicycles.
